Research Group SynaptoOscillopathies

TeamCaliskan is a young team with a broad interest in cellular and circuit-level alterations in rodent models of fear and anxiety disorders. We use electrophysiology, behaviour, immunocytochemistry, pharmacogenetics and chemogenetics (DREADDs) as experimental methods. Our current research focuses on identification of physiological and pathological alterations in the hippocampal activity patterns and synaptic plasticity and their relation to modulation of hippocampal engrams.

Our future work will aim to tackle fundamental questions in “brain-body interaction” by building causal bridges across the disciplines of neuropsychiatry and memory dysfunction with gut physiology and immunology.

Modelling fragile X-associated neuropsychiatric disorders in young inducible 90CGG premutation mice

Took years and a lot of teamwork, but finally out: in a mouse model of FXTAS, early psychiatric symptoms pop up way before neurodegenerative changes. Super excited to share this! Just accepted in Brain. Open access.
